From my youth I have spent most of my life drawing and painting alongside a variety of other creative avenues. After my foundation and HND art courses, I graduated with an H.Dip in Fine Art, from the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, (1995) London, training under the late theatre designer and painter, Yolanda Sonnabend.

Amongst others in our artistic family there have been some notable professional painters/artists: Francis Dunbar Marshall Malagola, Cecil Kennedy (flower painter), and Thomas Kennedy. Additionally I was fortunate to have some tutoring and inspiration from both the late John Ward RA, and my uncle Peter Thorneycroft, and my cousin David Tremlett. My working process covers a large body of drawings and watercolour paintings. Always an essential foundation for me, as well as the more finished oil works on varied surfaces.

Currently some selected framed works can be seen and purchased via Adams gallery, at Reigate, Surrey (above watercolour has now sold) and oils below). More will be forthcoming in due course.

Below: Various Sussex watercolour landscapes and skies on heavy cream beige paper at 10/7/8 x 5/6 inches, private sketches (signed pencil nr margin) show a current working exploratory process. A selection are available for purchase (earlier works have sold) at the Adams gallery, Reigate, so do make your enquiries with them, more to come later.

The last five years have been a journey of study concentrating on the landscape in Sussex near Ashdown forest. The ground is wonderfully rugged: browns and reds, and large clumps of gorse. It isn’t always easy to decipher and distill, but it is an ongoing passion for me. My philosophy is not to paint or merely copy what is front of me, but to paint a reaction, an emotional response combined and inspired by what is there. I work from experience, intense study and memory.

Below: a selection of recent mostly unframed works in oils on canvas and canvas on paper, laid on wood. I generally prefer to sign on the front in pencil on smaller works and on the back in pen. Most are created partially in the studio, after the initial ‘plein air’ study. Please allow for slight variations on tone for device screens and digital imaging capture. • Please enquire for availability/quote and postal arrangement if you are interested in purchasing. Prices range from £60-£350 for the more recent work.

Above a small selection of cards, including the watercolour clouds, printed and handmade, available at the Adams Gallery. More to come!
